Our Award-Winning History

The Caledon Concert Band truly excels in competition. A regular participant in the Canadian Band Association's Cavalcade of Winds Festival, Caledon Concert Band has collected two second place awards and five first place awards. The band is also a four-time champion in 6 competitions with the York Region Lions' Music Festival. In August 2001, the Canadian National Exhibition reinstituted its historical national band competition. Nine bands competed. Marks of 87 from both adjudicators led to the Caledon Concert Band receiving the trophy for Best Band of the Day.

In 2006, the band competed at the Ontario Band Association festival in Toronto, and was invited for the first time to compete at the National Finals of MusicFest Canada, held in Ottawa on May 20th. After performing Second Suite in F, The Hounds of Spring and Variations on a Korean Folk Song, the band collected a silver award for their prepared performance and a gold award in sight-reading. The preparation for the competition was difficult, but the results proved that hard work does indeed pay off!

2007 saw the band compete again at the Ontario Band Association festival, receiving gold awards in class B500 and another invitation to the National Finals. In February 2008, the band competed in class B600, the highest class of all, receiving silver and an invitation to compete at MusicFest Canada in that class. On May 13th, 2009, the band performed Toccata Marziale, Four Scottish Dances and Eternal Father, Strong to Save at MusicFest National Finals in class B600, and received unanimous silver awards in performance and another gold in sight-reading in this most difficult category!

These competitions and festivals are hard work, but fulfilling and fun at the same time. Preparing for these events provides us with an opportunity to raise the overall technical ability of our players.
