Musical Repertoire
With over 1200 scores in its library, the Caledon Concert Band boasts a very diverse, historically significant and unique repertoire. Well known for its versatility, the band enjoys music that is both fun and challenging. This requires careful selection of good quality scoring for concert band. The band gleans much of its European repertoire from the de Heske Publishing Co. of the Netherlands for works by such composers as Jan VanDerRoost and Jacob de Haan. The band also has access to many authentic Austrian polkas and folk music.
Our library contains a wonderful collection of Canadian compositions including rare copies of scores by the renowned Howard Cable such as his Quebec Suite and Newfoundland Rhapsody. The band was also privileged to perform Royce Hall Suite, an unpublished work for concert band by Healey Willan, best known for his sacred choral music. One of our favourite Canadian composers is the dynamic Eddie Graf who has thrilled generations with Swing Band music at the Palais Royale. He has performed his Arioso and Klesmer with the Caledon Concert Band and gave us a memorable evening of entertainment for our 25th Anniversary Gala Dinner Dance. His The Saints has become one of our popular finale selections.

Our band provides opportunities for solo performances where individual instruments are given an opportunity to "shine". Our concert on April 6, 2003 was an excellent example of solo opportunities within the band's repertoire. We performed the Gemeinhardt Suite by Robert W. Smith (2001) featuring our talented flute section. Smith is known for his challenging contemporary compositions with excellent parts written for all instruments in the band.
That concert also featured Rick Haighway, a talented grade 12 student giving a "breath-taking" performance on tuba, in Fantasia for Tuba and Concert Band by James Curnow. Rick is now a Music Performance Education student at Mohawk College, and as part of his education, has conducted the Caledon Concert Band on several occasions.
