About Us

The Caledon Concert Band

The Caledon Concert Band is a project of the Caledon Concert Band Association, a non-profit community-based organization dedicated to the furtherance of musical education within the community and to raising awareness of the benefits of musical education and development.

The band is based in Caledon East but draws members from Orangeville, Erin, Alliston, King City, Brampton, Toronto and from as far away as Hamilton, London and Cambridge. Our membership is multi-generational and fosters an atmosphere in which seasoned musicians can mentor more novice players. The band performs at the 500 - 600 level in competition with college, university and professional bands, yet welcomes "motivated intermediate" and "rusty re-entry" level players.

Instrumentation

We are a traditional concert band offering playing opportunities for the following instruments:

  • Flute and Piccolo
  • Bb, Eb, Alto and Bass Clarinets
  • English Horn, Oboe and Bassoon
  • Alto, Tenor and Baritone Saxophones
  • French Horn
  • Bb Trumpet, Cornet, Piccolo Trumpet and Flugelhorn
  • Tenor and Bass Trombone
  • Baritone / Euphonium
  • Tuba and String Bass
  • Percussion, Bells, Chimes, Synthesizer, Snare Drum, Tympani, Bass Drum and Drum Kit

Rehearsals and Performances

The band performs 10 - 12 times per year including 3 formal concerts. The band competes in festivals and makes 8 - 10 appearances at outdoor venues such as fairs, commemorative functions and has participated occasionally on parade floats.

We rehearse once per week throughout the year on Wednesdays 7:30 - 10:00 p.m. (with a 15 minute break) at the Caledon East Community Complex. Our rehearsals are structured yet informal, demanding but not intimidating, serious about professionalism but friendly and supportive.
